DESCRIPTION:The United States Coast Guard Barque Eagle is sailing toward Salem this summer!  She will arrive mid-morning on Friday\, August 9 and she will be in port a Salem Wharf\, 10 Blaney Street\, until August 12. \nEAGLE\, also known as “America’s Tall Ship” is the largest tall ship flying the Stars and Stripes and the only square-rigger in U.S. government service. The ship was built in 1936 in Germany\, and commissioned as Horst Wessel\, one of three sail training ships operated by the pre-World War II German navy. At the close of World War II\, Horst Wessel was taken as a war reparation by the United States\, recommissioned as the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle and sailed to New London\, Connecticut. Cost is $15 for SWYC and/or Power Squadron members\, $20 for others. There is no public parking at Salem Willows Park. \nShuttles are available from Shetland Properties starting at 7 a.m. The last return trip to Shetland from Salem Willows Park is at 12 noon. \nSalem Willows Park is located less than two miles from the intersection of routes 114 and 1A in Salem. \nRestrooms and water stops are available to walkers along the route (see map).

DESCRIPTION:As we are preparing our boats for the 2019 recreational boating season\, now is a good time to check your USCG required equipment an replace any equipment which is outdated or worn out.  The SWYC Annual USCGAUX Vessel Inspection day is scheduled for Saturday June 22nd\, from 8am until finished.  There will be “Federal Equipment Requirements and Safety Booklets” available inside the Club in advance of the June 22nd date.  Be sure to take a look at the requirements and purchase new flares or fire extinguishers in advance\, if needed.  A signup sheet will be posted on the Club Bulletin board on or about the first week of June.  For any information or questions\, please contact Steve Daly at ssdaly@verizon.net.    If you cannot make the inspections on June 22nd\, please contact Anne Olenio at clydeo300@comcast.net to schedule another day. \n  \nSteve Daly\, USCG Aux
