If you’re heading out on a trip it’s a great idea to file a Float Plan.
Whether you are a power boater or kayaker, filing a float plan is a very important part of boating safely.
The USCG Float Plan is a convenient and easy tool that lets you save a basic plan ahead of time and save it on your computer. Update it when you decide where and when you’re going to go. Then e-mail your completed plan to someone you trust who will know to follow up if you don’t return or check-in as planned.
Why should you prepare a float plan? Because without a float plan you are counting on someone else (a friend, neighbor, or family member) to remember all the detailed information that rescue personnel need in order to find you. That information can make a difference in the outcome of a search-and-rescue operation.

Veteran Appreciation Event on Wednesday July 24 at 11am
/by Mike MerrimanSWYC Members:
It is time to get ready for our biggest charitable event of the year.
We welcome local Veterans, take them out on the water and then provide a BBQ dinner.
Wednesday, July 24 at 11am (Rain Date July 25)
If so, we want you or them here to enjoy the day.
Please let me know.
We are looking for a few more Power Boaters.
It is pretty easy, you decide where to take them on a cruise.
Maybe a trip to Marblehead, or around Misery and to Manchester. It is up to you.
Trips should be 1-2 hours in length.
If you want a first mate, we will recruit someone for you.
Just let me know how many Vets you feel comfortable bringing along.
We need 1 or 2 people to help out setting up food and cleaning up.
We need a couple of people to help on the docks loading Vets in and out of the boats
We may need a couple volunteers to be First Mates.
Thanks for all you do to make the Club work. Please let me know ASAP.
Thanks,
Joe Bonzagni Vice Commodore
